Fatherless society

Statistics show that approximately nine (9) million children grow up without fathers in South
Africa. However, apart from statistics many people like myself come from households with absent fathers;thus it has become sadly surprising to befriend someone who lives with both parents or has an "active" father in their lives.Growing up I've always known my father but I didn't have a dad.I write the two words separately because I have come to learn that anyone can be a father but there are very few dads.

even though my mother made sure that i have all things but there was a void that she could never fill. thus, i grew up feeling like i am a mistake or i am perhaps unworthy because the man who fathered me failed to be my dad. However, as the years went by i learnt that my moms love and support was sufficient thus not having a dad cannot have any impact in my life because i have all that i need.

Not all men are DADS!

Unfortunately more and more women, both young and old are constantly being faced with the challenge of having to raise children alone because men choose to continue with their lives and no care about the children they produce.

But what exactly is the cause of such heartless behavior? Is it because they also come from broken homes and they don't know how to take on such a responsibility or are children merely a woman's responsibility? Why is it so easy for men to leave but the women have to take up the responsibility yet when it suits them, they reappear  demanding to know their children

A broken society

The impact of fatherlessness results in more young people caring less about creating a better future for themselves but constantly trying to prove a point that even with the rejection, they are adorable. Thus a lot of young people are destroying their future by throwing themselves at men, turning to alcohol and drugs and doing whatever it takes for them to feel accepted within the communities within which they live.

Where are those men that engage in our conception?
Why is it so easy for them to turn a blind eye and forget about the kids they have fathered?
Do they ever stop to think of the pain our mothers endure, having to raise rejected children who are constantly seeking answers and wanting affection?

Salute to all single mothers (and single fathers). What I really would like to know is whether or not there is any difference between children raised by single parents and those raised by both parents.

Struggles of a final year student

Ideally being in your final academic year  would make you feel excited and optimistic about the future, but what happens when you need to find an internship and get work integrated learning? Apply, many would say. But what happens when you've been applying and going for interviews yet they either cant hire you because you have to go to school once a week or you are not an ideal candidate because you haven't completed your qualification?

Internships before completion of qualification, yay? or nay?

Should internships be done during the final year of study or should institutions allow learners to complete their studies then place them in organisations? What happens then when students cannot find internships within the time period allocated by an institution? Is it fair on the student to have to waste a year? What can institutions do to help make the process of students getting internships easier and less threatening for their future?

Is government doing enough to provide work opportunities?

Year in and year out, we hear the government fussing about the need for youth upliftment and job creation. Yet, how is youth elevation ever going to be a reality when  finding work integrated learning opportunities is a struggle? Is government really doing enough in terms of providing work opportunities for the work, more especially when more and more young people are working hard to empower themselves by furthering their studies.

June 16

The day that changed South African history

One this day, the black community stood up and fought for their rights. They fought against being marginalized, constantly having their rights trampled upon by a system that viewed them as unworthy of living dignified lives. As the youth of today do we understand the depth of the sacrifice or are we merely glad that we get a day off work or school?

Happy June 16 everyone, let us not only get drunk but let us honor the lives of those we fought for us by taking our education seriously and doing more to empower ourselves and those around us.
